The 10YFP is a global framework for action to enhance international cooperation and accelerate the shift towards sustainable consumption and production (SCP) patterns in both developed and developing countries. Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) offers a solution to this growing dilemma. The transition to sustainable consumption and production patterns requires a range of tools and measures at various levels that must be implemented by various actors. SCP is a concept for harmonising sustainable production with sustainable consumption. Sustainable materials are made from resources that can be renewed or replenished quickly to keep up with supply and demand.. Economically viable. What is SCP? While the Nordics generally fare well in sustainability comparisons, Nordic consumption overshoots considerably the ecological thresholds for sustainable and equitable consumption. The Swedish policy agenda around SCP is described in Box 1 below. Implement the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, all countries taking action, with developed countries taking the lead, taking into account the development and capabilities of developing countries; By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources By showcasing over 50 practical examples of SCP, the Nordic Council of Ministers is encouraging accelerated action by all key stakeholders in Nordic countries, as well as sharing lessons learned internationally. Sustainable consumption and production The way we produce, use and dispose of goods is unsustainable and is rapidly depleting our planet’s natural resources. Our quality of life, prosperity and economic growth depend on living within ecological limits. Sustainable consumption and production is a cross-cutting issue that complements other goals. SDG 12 targets, and those covered in this study (bold) SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns 12.1 Implement the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption production Conserving of energy and natural resources. Sustainable growth and development require minimizing the natural resources and toxic materials used, and the waste and pollutants generated, throughout the entire production and consumption process. Sustainable and unsustainable materials. Sustainable Production is the creation of goods and services using processes and systems that are: Non-polluting. Education is an important cornerstone. The UN explains: Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all. Sustainable Consumption and Production1. The EU is committed to sustainable development, growth and jobs. Examples of sustainable materials are: Bamboo: a perennial grass that grows rapidly and doesn’t require harmful pesticides or fertilizers to grow. The idea is to work at both ends, the supply of and the demand for sustainable food. Socially and creatively rewarding for all working people. Safe and healthful for workers, communities, and consumers.
